As a Wichita teen photographer and a parent, I know our children grow up way too fast. One minute they are babies, and the next they are teenagers, ready to take on the world. That’s why teen photography is so important. Something I’ve noticed as a parent myself, is that we are usually very good at documenting our younger kids, but as they get older, it falls by the wayside. Capturing these fleeting moments in our teens life is not only a way to preserve memories, but it can also help them build confidence and self-esteem.
As a teen photographer in Wichita, KS, I have seen firsthand the impact that photography can have on a teenager’s life. Through my Teen Team subscription, I have had the privilege of working with lots of teen girls. Each one has their own unique story to tell, and it is my job to help them share it with the world. As a former teacher of 24 years, I know how to build relationships, and safe spaces. We all remember how hard it can be to be a teen. Especially in this day and age, where social media can have a negative impact on self esteem and belonging. I foster an encouraging environment, where the girls build one another up. My mission is much more than gorgeous images; it is to give them a sense of pride in themselves, empower themselves and others, and build and strengthen friendships.
One of the most significant benefits of the teen photography team is the boost it can give to a teenager’s confidence. Many teens struggle with self-doubt and self-esteem issues, and photography can help them see themselves in a new light. When a teenager sees a beautiful photo of themselves, it can be a powerful reminder of their own worth and value. In addition, during the shoots, the girls get to interact with one another, and are encouraged to hype/build each other up when it’s their turn in front of the camera!
Another great reason parents should sign their child up for Teen Team is that it can be a great way for teenagers to express themselves. Adolescence is a time of great change, and photography can be a way for teens to explore their identity and find their voice. Through photography, teens can capture their own unique perspective on the world and share it with others.
Each month, we have a different theme. This month, our theme was spring, and we had it at https://botanica.org/. Some of our past themes have been Girl Power, Dance, Pool Party, Boho flower fields, Fall, Back to School, just to name a few. The shoots are scheduled on Sunday evenings usually, and you will know the dates well in advance. They usually take about 1.5 hours. Each girl gets about 7 minutes in front of the camera, and then we take group shots. The subscription is a 6 month commitment. Lots of people join up again because the girls love it! Sunsets, like childhood, are viewed with wonder not just because they are beautiful, but because they are fleeting.
